Using 1Password in Your Daily Work
Once you're set up, 1Password makes logging into work apps and services quick and painless — while keeping everything secure in the background.
This guide covers:
Filling passwords into websites and apps
Saving new credentials
Understanding vaults (and how to use them)
Securely sharing logins with others
Autofill Made Easy
With the browser extension installed, 1Password will detect login fields and offer to autofill your saved credentials.
To use it:
Navigate to a login page
Click the 1Password icon in the login field or your browser toolbar
Select the saved login — it fills in automatically
💡 If prompted, you may need to unlock 1Password using your company SSO login or biometrics (like Touch ID or Windows Hello).
Saving New Logins
The first time you log into a new website:
1Password will offer to save the login
Choose the vault to save it in (Private or Shared)
Next time, it’ll be ready to autofill
If you skip this prompt, you can always manually add the login later via the app or browser extension.
Vaults: Private vs. Shared
You’ll have access to multiple vaults:
Private Vault: Only you can see this. Store your personal work credentials here.
Shared Vaults: These are created by IT for departments, teams, or functions.
When saving a new login or item, pay close attention to which vault you’re saving into — this controls who else can access it.
Sharing Credentials Securely
Need to share a login with someone?
Open 1Password and locate the item
Use the Share button to:
Add it to a shared vault the other person can access, or
Create a temporary, secure link with time limits and expiration
Never send passwords through chat, email, or screenshots. Always use the Share feature.
Bonus Features
Use 1Password to store MFA codes (TOTP) — no more flipping between apps
Create secure notes for things like license keys, admin access instructions, etc.
Use tags or favorites to organize important items
