Company Policy: 1Password Usage & Vault Access

1Password is a required security tool used to protect company accounts, credentials, and sensitive information.

This article outlines how we use it, what’s expected of you, and what you can (and cannot) assume about privacy and support.

General Expectations

All team members are expected to:

  • Use 1Password to store all work-related logins and credentials

  • Avoid reusing passwords or storing them elsewhere (email, sticky notes, etc.)

  • Keep their Private Vault tidy and organized

  • Use only secure sharing methods — no chat, email, or text screenshots

Vault Access and Visibility

  • Your Private Vault is visible only to you.

  • Shared Vaults are visible to specific teams or departments.

  • Only IT and authorized admins can create, edit, or remove vaults.

Vault access is regularly reviewed. If your role changes, your access may be updated.

Things You Should Never Do

  • Don’t store personal login info in shared vaults.

  • Don’t share vaults or items with people outside the organization.

  • Don’t attempt to circumvent 1Password by saving passwords in your browser or a note app.

BYOD Devices and Personal Risk

If you're using a personal (BYOD) device, you're responsible for:

  • Ensuring company credentials are not stored alongside personal or client credentials

  • Not syncing work items to third-party storage (like iCloud Keychain or Chrome)

  • Complying with the company’s Acceptable Use Policy

We do not support or remotely access personal/BYOD devices under any circumstance.

IT Support Boundaries

We will:

  • Provide access and basic training

  • Assist with vault permissions and onboarding/offboarding

  • Help restore access to your account via SSO

We will not:

  • Troubleshoot personal device installations

  • Access your Private Vault

  • Help you bypass MFA or SSO policies

Free Family Account

All users with 1Password access under our plan are eligible for a free 1Password Families account for personal use.
