Casting to a Microsoft Teams Room (MTR)
Casting lets you wirelessly share content from your computer to a Microsoft Teams Room (MTR) or Surface Hub device — no cables, adapters, or dongles required. This is useful for impromptu presentations, screen sharing, or reviewing a file with the room.
Before You Begin
To successfully cast, make sure:
You're signed into Teams with your company account (same tenant as the MTR).
You're on the same Wi-Fi/network as the room device.
You’re using the Teams desktop app (not web, not mobile).
Note: Casting only works if the Teams Room is set up properly. You’ll know it’s ready if a wireless icon appears next to the room name when selecting a device.
How to Cast to a Microsoft Teams Room
Open Microsoft Teams on your computer.
Click the "..." (More Options) menu in the top-right.
Select Cast.
Choose the desired MTR room from the list. Rooms with the wireless icon will auto-accept the cast if enabled.
Click Next.
If you have a meeting scheduled in that room, choose:
Just cast – Share content without joining the meeting.
Cast and join meeting – Join the scheduled meeting and present.
Click Next again.
Choose what to share:
Your entire screen
A specific app window
A PowerPoint Live presentation
Click Cast.
Your screen should appear on the room’s display. Audio will stay muted by default on your device.
Ending the Cast
To fully end the cast: Click "End meeting" from your Teams window.
If you click "Leave", you may also need to manually end the session from the MTR device itself.
Need Help?
If casting doesn’t work:
Double-check you're signed into Teams with your work account.
Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
Confirm the MTR device is online and discoverable.
If you’ve followed these steps and it still isn’t working, contact the IT team.
BYOD devices and personal Teams accounts may not be compatible with MTR casting.
