Advanced Search & Filters

For more precise incident investigation, XProtect Smart Client offers advanced search categories and filters. These features help you find exactly what you're looking for across large amounts of footage.

Advanced Search Categories

Note: Some advanced categories are only available in XProtect Corporate or XProtect Expert systems.

Available Search Categories

  • Alarms - Video associated with system alarms

  • Events - Video linked to specific system events

  • People - Video containing detected persons

  • Vehicles - Video with vehicle detection

  • Location - Video recorded at specific geographical coordinates

Searching for Alarms

Find video footage associated with system alarms:

  1. Select your cameras and time period

  2. Click Search for > Alarms > New search

  3. Apply filters to narrow results:

    • Priority - High, medium, low priority alarms

    • State - Open, closed, or other alarm states

    • ID - Type the full alarm ID if known

    • Owner - Alarms assigned to specific operators

    • Server - Filter by server (in multi-server systems)

Searching for Events

Find footage associated with system events:

  1. Select Search for > Events > New search

  2. Filter options include:

    • Source - Which device or system generated the event

    • ID - Type the full event ID

    • Server - Filter by specific server

Searching for People

Requires: People detection must be enabled by your system administrator

  1. Select Search for > People > New search

  2. Apply people-specific filters:

    • Age - Filter by age range

    • Gender - Filter for males or females

    • Height - Filter by height range

    • Face - Check this box to only show results where faces are visible

Searching for Vehicles

Requires: Vehicle detection enabled, or XProtect LPR installed

  1. Select Search for > Vehicles > New search

  2. Available filters:

    • Color - Filter by vehicle colors

    • License plate - Enter partial or full license plate numbers

    • Country - Filter by license plate issuing country (requires XProtect LPR)

    • Vehicle speed - Filter by speed ranges

    • Vehicle type - Filter by vehicle types (trucks, cars, etc.)

    • Match list - Filter for plates on specific watch lists (requires XProtect LPR)

Smart Motion Search

For precise motion detection:

  1. Choose Motion as your search category

  2. Click "Specify motion area"

  3. Select cameras one at a time

  4. In the red preview area:

    • Click and drag to unmask areas where you want to detect motion

    • Unmask multiple areas if needed

    • Adjust sensitivity using the slider at the bottom

  5. The search updates automatically as you make changes

Motion Search Tips

  • Higher threshold = more motion required = fewer results

  • Lower threshold = less motion required = more results

  • Focus on key areas like doorways, cash registers, or main walkways

  • Avoid areas with trees, flags, or other constant movement

Combining Search Categories

Available in: XProtect Corporate and XProtect Expert

You can use multiple search categories together for very specific searches:

Match All Criteria

  • Results must meet ALL selected criteria

  • Example: Motion AND Alarms = only show motion detection that also triggered alarms

  • Produces fewer, more precise results

Match Any Criteria

  • Results meet ANY of the selected criteria

  • Example: Motion OR Alarms = show motion detection plus any alarms

  • Produces more results but less precise

To set criteria matching:

  1. Add multiple search categories

  2. Choose "Match all criteria" or "Match any criterion"

  3. The search updates automatically

Searching for Bookmarks

Find previously saved incidents:

  1. Select Search for > Bookmarks > New search

  2. Filter bookmarks by:

    • Keywords - Search in bookmark titles and descriptions

    • Bookmark ID - Enter the full bookmark ID (e.g., no.000004)

    • Added by - Find bookmarks created by specific users

Keyword Search Tips:

  • Keywords search both the headline and description fields

  • Use "Search for keyword in" to change which fields are searched

Location-Based Search

Requires: Geographic positioning enabled by system administrator

Find video recorded at specific locations:

  1. Select Search for > Location > New search

  2. Enter geographic coordinates:

    • Latitude and longitude coordinates

    • Radius of the search area around those coordinates

Filtering and Sorting Results

Sort Options

Results can be sorted by:

  • Relevance - Most matching criteria first (Corporate/Expert only)

  • Newest event time - Most recent events first

  • Oldest event time - Oldest events first

  • Newest start time - Most recent recordings first

  • Oldest start time - Oldest recordings first

Bounding Boxes

Toggle bounding boxes on/off to highlight detected objects:

  • Show - Display boxes around detected motion, people, vehicles

  • Hide - Remove highlighting for cleaner viewing

Example: Complex Investigation

Scenario: Find a specific vehicle that triggered an alarm yesterday

  1. Time Period: Set to "Yesterday"

  2. Cameras: Select all parking lot and entrance cameras

  3. Search Categories:

    • Add "Vehicles"

    • Add "Alarms"

    • Choose "Match all criteria"

  4. Vehicle Filters:

    • Set color if known

    • Enter partial license plate if available

  5. Review Results: Look for combined vehicle + alarm events
