Why Restarting and Running Updates Actually Matters

We get it — restarting your computer feels like a hassle. But skipping restarts and ignoring updates can slowly drag down your system’s performance, leave you vulnerable to security risks, and cause weird issues that waste even more of your time.

Why Restarting Matters

Restarting your computer:

  • Clears temporary files and memory
Things get cluttered over time — a reboot gives your system a fresh start.

  • Fixes weird glitches
Applications freezing, devices disconnecting, or Teams refusing to launch? A reboot can often fix all of the above.

  • Applies pending updates and system changes
Many updates (especially security-related ones) don’t fully apply until your machine reboots.

Pro Tip: If your computer says “Restart Required,” don’t wait — restart today, not someday.

How We Handle Updates

We install major updates every Saturday night at 10 PM. If your computer is online at that time, it will receive the updates and restart automatically if needed.

If your machine is offline during the scheduled update window, updates will install — and your system may restart — the next time it connects, typically Monday morning.

How Often Should You Restart?

Even outside our scheduled updates, it’s smart to restart at least once a week, or anytime your system seems slow or buggy. Don’t just close your laptop lid — a full restart helps more than you think.
